Couples Counseling in Winston-Salem, NC

Most couples don't come to therapy because they don't care about each other. They come because they keep getting pulled into the same painful patterns and can't figure out how to get out of them.

Whether you're facing recurring conflict, emotional distance, challenges with trust, intimacy, or communication, couples counseling can help you understand those patterns and create new ways of responding to each other.

When It Feels Like You're Having the Same Fight Over and Over

Couples counseling may be a good fit if you:

  • Feel caught in recurring conflict that doesn’t get resolved
  • Struggle with communication, defensiveness, or withdrawal
  • Feel disconnected or emotionally distant
  • Are working to rebuild trust or repair your connection
  • Want to strengthen your relationship before things get worse
  • Are navigating a transition together (moving, career changes, etc.)

These patterns don't usually change because either partner tries harder. They change when you both begin to understand the cycle you're caught in and learn new ways of responding to it. Couples therapy works best when both partners are willing to reflect on their role in the relationship and work toward change.

Changing the Pattern, Not Just the Argument

Rather than deciding who's right or wrong, we'll work to understand the interactional pattern that's keeping both of you stuck. To do that, I draw from evidence-based approaches including the Gottman Method and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) to help you understand and shift the patterns in your relationship. Together we'll focus on:

  • Slowing down interactions so both partners feel heard
  • Identifying the cycle you get pulled into
  • Reducing reactivity and defensiveness
  • Rebuilding emotional safety and trust
  • Strengthening connection and responsiveness

Relationship counseling is a collaborative process where sessions are structured to help both partners feel safe and understood. We'll shift the conversation from deciding who's right to understanding the pattern that's pulling both of you into conflict. Once you can see the pattern clearly, you can begin responding to each other differently.
